Jarawas are a tribe in Andaman living in South and Middle Andaman. They can be seen on the way to Baratang. They are warm and friendly. Earlier, they were very hostile towards the locals of Andaman. Their attitude changed after the government gifted them coconuts, bananas etc to maintain friendly relations with them. The change is seen today in their behavior with the tourists who specially go to their areas to meet them. They are a healthy tribe with smooth skin, curly hair and sturdy bone structure. They have a good physique which is fit for hunting and fishing. Jarawas are not a dependent tribe. They still hunt for a living. They are nomads engaged in hunting, fishing and gathering. Their food consists of wild boar, turtles, turtle eggs, crabs, pigs, fruits and honey. They use rafts to cross rivers. They are not fond of canoes like other tribes.
