Andaman has the most amazing variety of corals in the world. Corals of all the possible colours can be seen here. The experience of being surrounded by colourful coral reefs and fishes is beyond imagination. There are two ways to see the reefs. One is by a glass bottom boat in which takes to into the seas where you can see the corals and fishes from the bottom of your boat. But the best way to watch these creatures is by snorkeling.
You don’t need to know the sport to see the corals. Even if u can’t swim you can do snorkeling with the help of a guide. All you have to do is wear the snorkel tube and a float to stay above the water. The guide holds your float and directs you into the sea. You just have to put your head below the water to see this extraordinary world of the aquatic life. As you go deeper you can see more variety of fish and corals. Fishes like Jelly fish, sharks, eagle rays, clown fish, angel fish, groupers etc can be seen in Andaman. Fan corals, soft corals, bush corals, black corals etc are coral varieties here.
Corals can been seen at Wandur National Park in Jolly Buoy island, Red skin island, North Bay, Cinque island, Mahatma Gandhi Marine park at Port Blair etc. But the best corals are at Havelock Island at Elephant island. It is a very small island in Havelock where you can reach only by a boat. A boat takes around 45 minutes from the main jetty of Havelock to reach Elephant Island. It can cost you Rs 1500 per boat. 4 to 6 people can share a boat. Once you reach there the guides are waiting to take you snorkeling. Snorkeling is a must do in the Andamans even if you are a little scared in the beginning. |
