    location of tribesAn interesting feature of the Andamans is the tribal people here. Some of the tribes are still very hostile, while the others have become friendly with the other people due to the changing times. There are four major tribes in the Andaman region.
    They are
     
    The Great Andamanese (Strait Island)

    The Onges (Little Andaman)

    The Jarawas (South and Middle Andaman)

    The Sentinelese (North Sentinel Island)

  • The Great Andamanese Tribe
    This tribe was once dominated other tribes in Andaman in terms of population. Today, their numbers have decreased greatly. The government is making efforts to preserve the tribe. The tribals have been rehabilitated at Strait Island in Andaman. The great Andamanese are basically wanderers. Now they have become more civilized and can cook food using spices along with dal and chapatti. Sometimes they still go hunting pork, Andaman water monitor lizard, octopus, mollusks and other sea animals apart from the regular crab and fish. Now, they have also established poultry farms. They participate in group activities like games and dances. They make their own bows, arrows and boats for their needs. Due to the influence of the locals, the Great Andamanese have developed communicable diseases and unhealthy drinking habits.

  • Vijaynagar Beach

    Vijay Nagar Beach in Havelock Island, Port Blair, AndamanVijaynagar beach is a beach in Havelock Island. It is 4km from the Havelock Jetty. It is on the eastern front. The Government owned Dolphin Resort is located on this beach itself. The water level rises till the retaining wall of the resort during high tide and during low tide it recedes behind deep inside. Rafts are placed in the sea for partying in water at night. You can find innumerable shells of various shapes and colours on the sand during low tide. Small soldier crabs can be spotted running here and there.

  • The Sentinelese Tribe
    They do not communicate with any other tribes and live an aloof life. They are special as they are the world’s only Paleolithic group surviving without contact with the world. The Sentinelese is a part of the Onge Jarawa tribe. They have a separate identity due to their isolated existence. Due to their hostile attitude, not much is known about the tribe.

  • Ramnagar Beach

    Ramnagar Beach is located in Diglipur Island which is 333km from Port Blair by road and 185 km by sea. Two daily boats connect it to Mayabunder. Boats from Port Blair are twice a week.

    The beach is a beautiful sandy beach. Turtle nesting happens on the beach from December to February. Hotel Laxmi located on the beach has basic rooms for accommodation.

  • Corbyn's Cove Beach

    Corbyn's Cove BeachCorbyn’s Cove Beach is the only beach of the capital Port Blair. It gets its name because it is in the shape of a cove or a C-shaped bay. It is a nice beach lined with coconut trees. Unlike the beaches of Havelock, this one is more crowded.

    There is a restaurant near the beach. The Peerless Resort which is jus behind the beach also has a nice restaurant with wooden interiors and good sea view.
